Picked up this buff baby a few days ago, hoping for a hen

Great pics all! No hatching here yet...still too much cold/snow but I do have hatching egg orders in so maybe I can get a few different colors this year.
The GL are beautiful....congrats on the egg!
All the chicks look like pullets to me...hope you all keep us posted as they grow!

Here are my backyard babies!!! My 8 month old buff Orpington went broody so I bought her some eggs. I kept six out of the eleven. I hope I chose well!! If anyone wants to weigh in with gender guesses please do! They are 3 weeks on Wednesday. The others I found homes for had no tails, no shoulder feathers and few wing feathers. They are two darks, two buffs and two lights The buffs are the sweetest

They sre beautiful! Mine are over 5 wks old, amd I'm still guessing at gender, though I feel sure now about a few of them.

I have one brahma pullet "Mia" she is 6 months now.. and bigger than everyone else.. im pretty sure she is not SQ but she is pretty . shes not as friendly as I hoped but they all have an individual personality , shes not mean she just don't like to be held . we are thinking of getting a brahma rooster, now for him I do prefer SQ only because my oldest son wants to show him in the jr . I cannot wait to see how big Mia will be ! how long do they grow before they are full grown ?

My understand is that the pullets are pretty much full grown after a year and the cockerels after a year and a half. Mine are 8 months old now and not growing up so much as starting to put on weight.

Of my hatchery Light pullets, most were pretty much done growing by 12 months. The two largest kept putting on weight/muscle till about 16 months.
I don't think any of my Lights like to be held but they are smart and adaptable if there is something in it for them. One of my girls had such a hard molt that she couldn't fly up to roost. I started picking her up every night to place her on the roost and pretty soon she would run to me and jump right in my hands. The same with another hen that had been injured. I kept her in a crate in my shop and let her out daily to get some sun. When she wanted to get back inside to lay or at dark she would run up and jump in my hands. Maybe if you give good treats (mealworms or boiled hamburger) when you pick her up she will learn to like it!

Very nice. Mine are 4 weeks old now and all of the look the same. I'm really hoping that they are all pullets, not all cockerels......but, we'll see. I guess the one good sign is that the 8 month old cockerel is ignoring them pretty much and the #1 hen is pecking them into the correct order (not hard, just letting them know who's #1) I just starting integrating them a few days ago. I'm hoping that it means that they are all pullets. But, as we know, it can be hard to tell for about another month.

Thank you! the friendliest of the bunch is the biggest buff, shes hilarious and very very snuggly. I picked these out of 11 that my Orpington "fluffy" hatched so I am praying that they are girls! fingers crossed for both of us!

thank you livininbrazil! its not the lighting, they are quite dark. The pictures actually wash all of them out. Thank you for your kind and non judgemental comments! I will love them to matter what they turn out like! as long as they aren't roos lol

Well I don´t think anyone´s judgemental on this thread, as we all have them for fun. I like my Brahmas because they´re so sweet-natured and look great.

hopefully you´ll have hens there, looks promising at least.
