Hi folks, I'm up in Minnesota and am just getting started with chickens. I am still in the learning/planning phase, but we are planning for spring 2019 to start hens. I am specifically interested in layers that are hardy to cold as we get pretty brutal winters here.
As of right now, I'm planning on incorporating hens into my composting process so I have plenty of compost for my garden beds and scratch for them.
Backyardchickens.com comes highly recommended from many resources, too many to list a specific one.
We do a lot of diy and focus on self sufficiency and are currently working on a 1000sqft garden (which will eventually be 3000sqft).
Looking forward to joining the community and meeting other like minded homesteaders!
