So far I am loving all the information, suggestions and feedback that I have found here. The amount of member support here IS off the charts! Without even engaging in a thread or conversation, I already feel welcome and part of the group!

I am the proud keeper of 10 chicks (so far). I have four Dominques, one Maran, one Black Sexlink, Two Rhode Island Red's, one Ameraucana and one Buff Orpington. My desire to be the best possible caregiver to my new chicks has brought me to BYC and I have only scratched the surface (pun intended) of all the info packed into this website. My chicks range between 4 days and 1 week old. They all get along fine and are a crack up as they run laps around the plastic tub trying to snatch dried mealworms from one another!

My teenage sons and my husband will be building a coop and run for the Peep Squad (or Diablo Peeps, not too sure yet what I am going to name the flock). We live in Concord, CA in the foothills at the base of Mt Diablo so "Diablo" Peeps seems appropriate to me. However, I do like Peep Squad and Meat the Flocker's. ;) I don't think I have it in me to use our chickens for anything other than eggs but ya never know what will happen down the road.

I will do my best to find my way around BYC and get the answers to some of my questions but I like to chat and socialize, so if something has already been answered somewhere else and I missed it, please be kind enough to guide me to the already asked question. =)

Welcome! Your chicks are beautiful! We are new to raising chickens and LOVE this website! Everyone here is so incredibly helpful. I totally understand the addiction people seem to get in regards to taking care of these little ones.

I find myself rushing home after work to get in more chic and doggie time! We have 6 Isa Browns and 3 dogs (shepherd mix, lab/cocker and min-pin). Our dogs seem to really like the chicks... so far no mishaps of wanting to do anything but sniff and an occasional lick of the chicks! (I love them dearly but don't totally trust that they won't try to "taste" a chick at some point). LOL

Good luck with your babies!

I really love "Peep Squad," if it's open to voting. Looks like it's nap time for the little peepers. They are adorable, in case you haven't noticed. So Glad you joined the Backyard Chickens flock

Hi and welcome to our flock!

So glad you could join our community! Congratulations on your new chicks. Sounds like you have a lovely variety! All of the breeds that you've picked out have reputations for good temperaments and good egg production. I've really enjoyed raising my Rhode Island Red and hatchery Ameraucana.

Hope the coop construction goes well! Building the coop can be the hardest (and most expensive) part of raising chickens.

Welcome to BYC and good luck with your chicks!

So I bought 6 chicks at 1.99 per chick and my grandpa thinks that's BC they were all 1.99 they are all roosters. Is this true?
