Wanted to say hello, and hope to learn a lot from this forum. My wife and I have been talking about backyard chickens for a few years now, and this spring we will do just that. I'm sure we will have many questions, and as we learn, we'll answer others. Any obvious things to do/avoid? I've been reading Building Chicken Coops for Dummies lately, that is where I learned about this website.
We are looking to build a walk in screened in coop, with a pull-out floor for a clean-out. Also we like the idea of the nesting boxes on the side of the coop with a flip up top for egg harvesting. We are primarily looking for eggs, not meat. (but that may not be the final idea!) and having 4-6 laying hens, starting with 4 this spring. Chickens are not a problem in Indy, no zoning issues.
