Hi im from Australia melbourne. I have never raised chicken's before so this is my 1st. My husband and i didn't think their was so much involved in raising chicken's. But you know what i enjoy every part of it: to collecting eggs to cleaning pooh to feeding.
I plan my day around them so i can make sure i take them out their coop pen so they can eat some grass then back in. I let them out daily 2 or 3 times aday for about 20 to 30mins at a time.
I also do gardening so they have gotten me angry when eating my vegetable so they now no what they can touch and cant touch when i yell out 'stop itttt' its funny when their near my plants they look at me first to see if im looking if i am they fly away quickly lol. Its funny. they know whos boss
I have 1 isa rooster 7months old and
2 isa hens 8months and
4 wyandotte hen 12 months old...
All hens are laying every 2nd day or so.
i love my hens not so much the rooster as he trys to peck me and is always fighting with the hens

If your rooster is showing signs of aggression and getting your hens stressed out, you might want to think of finding him another home. Your girls will be happier and you won't have to worry about getting hurt.

If you'd like to say 'hello' to other members in Australia, you can find some of them here:

If you don't need fertile eggs to hatch or sell, you will do fine without a rooster causing a problem. Lots of people are forgoing having one. Welcome to Backyard chickens.

G'day, and welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. X2 on NorthFlChick's and drumstick diva's advice. There is never a good reason to keep a bad rooster. You don't want to risk him injuring someone, nor do you want to breed that kind of aggression into your flock. Even if you want a rooster to fertilize eggs for hatching, there are loads of unwanted roosters available just waiting to be re-homed and you can always pick up a gentle one somewhere. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Cheers.
