Oak Harbor, Washington
Hello from Washington, Oak Harbor area :)

I am super excited to start raising chickens. I have little experience and look forward to learning everything I can about these cute clucks. I helped raise some chickens when I was younger but otherwise I am green. We are hoping to start with chicks and have 4-6. Just have to locate them.
We have a coop inside our garden shed with a run outside

Welcome to BYC from California wine country in the Western Sierra Foothills!

I bet I can guess what you do for a living.... ;) I know my hypertension med dosage was reduced after I started keeping chickens....... Wonderful stress reducer.

Hope you find everything you need in the Learning Center or other forums here. Do not be afraid to ask questions no matter how basic (or silly) you may think they are; we were all new at one time. When I investigated the idea, all I knew was they're birds, descended from T- Rex, ate bugs, made "the best" fertilizer, and roosters crow. Total.

I think it's great you're planning ahead. Wait until you discover how delightful EACH chicken can be, with individual personalities.

Oh, yah, I knew they had feathers and hens don't need rosters to lay eggs.

This is an amazing community of helpful, informative, and experienced members all working towards one aspect of keeping poultry or another. BYC is the best!
