This chicken hatch day was January 16 23. I have been stumped on if it’s a hen or roo. Seem to change by the week. It looks like hen then looks like a rooster. So maybe y’all can help me out. I have asked before with this bird but it’s been a few weeks so maybe be easier for someone with more experience than I to figure it out. Please and thank you for your time.

90% sure that's a hen.

4 months old, with that comb growth is a hen, IMO. I see the dark red color that folks typically associate with roosters on the wings, and a somewhat longer tail, but no pointed hackle or saddle feathers, which I think would have shown up by now. In this case, I think it's a hen that has a lot of mahogany in her, and a RIR or Production Red body type, which can have a poofy saddle and nice long trailing tail. Also, she has small pink wattles. Roos would be larger and redder at this age.

If you cross a really dark mahogany RIR or Production Red rooster with a pea comb easter egger that looks much like a brown leghorn or welsummer, you can get this red look in your hens.

Right now I have 6 Production Red x Prairie Bluebell (fancy blue laying EE from Hoovers) hens that look similar to your chicken in body shape, and are all over mahogany with a number of variations (gold lacing or black lacing, or gold in center of feathers, some black feathers, etc)

If I'm wrong and it ends up being a slow developing cockerel, let me know. Do you have any other cockerels or roosters around? Does it act like a hen or a rooster particularly?

I have 2 other rooster for sure. Who have just started crowing. It does try to fight alot with younger birds but could be establishing pecking order. But this one is relentless. But no crowing yet. It’s face/ waddles have been red for almost 2 months. If that matters any.

In the pics the comb/wattles look pink and very pale. If in person they are obviously red and have been for two months, then slow developing cockerel is more likely. I just can't get over the hen feathering and the fact that the comb hasn't developed at all yet. Don't see male feathering at all on the hackle or saddle. You could have a hen feathered rooster - some breeds tend to do this (I don't remember which ones). If you have hen feathered breeds in his/her genetic background, then odds of this chicken being a rooster are also higher.

I see why you're having trouble IDing this chicken. Either way, please do update, now I'm really curious how this one turns out.
