I think it is cocci with all I have read. now for treatment
amprolium, sulmet????? what will these meds do for the ill
chicken and the rest of the flock....how will this affect
eggs. I have a small 2 year old flock, my isa brown
started to huddle, ruffled feathers, was picked on
now removed last night from group. this am found
bloody stool. she ate some oatmeal, is still lethargic
alert to sound and has red comb. But is standing
in a trance postition. the rest (24) hens and one rooster
look fine. I called some vets in area and they said
to wait till she dies and they'll do an autopsy. I live
in the city and no one seems to know anything
about chickens>>>>>what's a mama to do?????

WAIT TILL SHE DIES?!?! That's awful! I'm so sorry you had to hear that.

My local supply stores don't sell ANY meds separate that treat cocci - but they do sell the medicated chick starter. I'm not sure if you'll do any better, being in a city. You might have to order it online.

Maybe you could try using the medicated chick starter on your sick bird and the rest of the flock as a preventative while you wait for it? I know the concentrations of amprolium in the chick starter are low - what do other people think?

thats the only thing that doesn't fit. they are all 2 years old, never been around any
other birds, eatting same food. Everyone else is fine....I never had them vaccinated
because the goal was to have them eat and live as natural as possible without
anitbiotics.....but I don't want them to die. they have been so good....
