I have a month old chick with severe crossbeak. The bottom beak is growing sideways. The chick was given to me or should I say dropped off. Seems to be thriving at the moment but am concerned for it's wellbeing . Can any thing be done with this condition?
What causes it?

I believe that it is genetic in nature. The tips of the beak can be carefully trimmed back to the quick with dog nail clippers if the bird becomes unable to eat. Providing moistened feed in a deep dish where bird can jam its entire face into the feed can help with eating. Inability to eat/drink is the biggest problem with such chicks.
