Bad duck eye

before I went on vacation my duck had a slightly bloody area around her eye like she got injured by one of the others 4 days later I come back (had friends watching them) and the eye it completely shut and crusted over . I immediately clean the pond and let her swim and she is now able to open it but it is still very swollen and clearly infected . I’m not sure how to treat it , I have vetericyn plus can I spray that on the eye? I’m not sure what to do please help!

I would apply antibiotic ointment (opthalmic if available) to the eye until it heals.

You can purchase terramycin antibiotic eye ointment from many feed stores. This duck definitely needs to spend time in a clean pool daily, multiple times a day if possible. It could be an injury. How many ducks do you have? Do you have any drakes? As far as the spray, I'm not sure. Personally, I would want an eye ointment of some kind to soothe the inflamed eye.

Vetericyn also make an eye wash which is really useful to have around. Hope your duck is better soon!

Look up recipes for saline eye wash[https://sciencing.com/what-is-saline-solution-13712150.html] and rinse her eye really well then spray the Veterycin until you can get some Terramycin eye ointment. [this is what you need for infections] I have sprayed my eyes with Veterycin when I got dust in my eye when cleaning my coop it's good for irritation.
Drakes can often grab around the eye when holding on for mating. Also chickens are bad for pecking especially if they see blood.

Yeah I’m not sure what happened it was not this bad at all though before I left so it makes me really sad but I’m going to try and do that ! Thank you !

Once you get the Terramycin and start using it along with the saline rinse and Veterycin Hopefully it will clear up.

Terramycin can be bought at some feed stores so call around also on line.
