Goose eggs in incubator. Day 22. One egg had a very mild dirty sock smell. Had seen swishing about 10 days ago, but the egg continued to draw down and seemed to be growing and I thought maybe the bird was developing.

Found post mentioning a red ring around inside of egg where air sac was drawing down (not the blood ring in the veins but a reddish residue around the base of the bright air sac). Did not see this in my very active duckling eggs. Air cell for them is perfectly clear and bright.

I was just going to throw them away. Instead we cracked them open (outside of course) and instantly knew that was right decision. Smelled like farts.

Good for you for doing an eggtopsy. Looks and sounds like there may have been bacteria in an egg that was either not fertile or that stopped developing very early. Based on your description, leaning toward the latter.

No one wants that exploding in the incubator. 🤢

I'm off scrambled eggs for a while!!! Quite unpleasant but, learned something important. Won't be leaving questionable eggs in that long ever again!
