Bad eye and head injuries

Yesterday one of my older birds attacked one of my younger still chick birds. He sustained some horrible gashes on his head and both his eyes are swollen. I brought him inside and cleaned him up and put some neosporin on his cuts and gave him a stitch or two. He has made it 24 hours and appears to be getting stronger every hour. However, the eyes still swollen. Has anyone ever had a bird sustain head/eye injuries where the eyes are swollen and bloody and the bird healed and was still able to see. I hope he is not blind. I feel so horrible. I didnt think the older birds would do this and they had been getting along fine.
