Can anyone tell me what this is?

Her feathering is in bad condition, her beak looks odd, and the eye when I saw it at first looked to be infected. The stuff over her eye seems to be sort of foamy.

Some questions.

Can you give a goose Duramycin 72-200 that is intended for cattle? It's an Oxytetracycline, antibiotic given by injection. Has anyone used this orally on geese before? If so, at what dosage.
If not, what over the counter antibiotic can one give to a goose and at what dosages?

I have Oxytetracycline that was designed for chickens. I got it at my local feed store. Just mix into the water. There were others on the shelf as well.
I would certainly get her on something fast.

The problem with something for chickens is that it can kill waterfowl. I don't know if there are antibiotics labeled for ducks or geese in the U.S. Did you give the Oxytetracycline to waterfowl or chickens?

I used it on my chickens. You should inquire at your local feed store and see what's best. I've never had any health problems with my geese, so I can't even guess at what would be safe for them.

Edit - Just went and checked. Both the Oxy, and the normal Tetracycline are both labelled for poultry, swine, bees, calves etc. Directions only cover Turkeys and chickens in the poultry department. My guess is they have never been tested on waterfowl, as both products don't say NOT to use for waterfowl.

Here is something you can do while sorting out the antibiotic question. Get chamomile tea bags. Boil some water, make the tea, and let cool down. Chamomile as anti-septic/anti-inflammatory properties. Rinse the eye several times per day. Make sure the goose was a deep bucket of clean water available to rinse the face and eyes. It's most likely just some dust in there irritating the eye. I had that with one of my ducks and it went away after a few day just doing this routine. I've also used Visine in the past.

I bought a call duck mix that had white eyes like that, the bird had gotten sick(before I got her) and the surface of the eye was perminatly left 'foggy'. I cleaned her eyes with idoine water and gave her electrlytes and she got better, but her eyes are always going to be foggy. Your goose is probably blind in that eye now

I never trust a feed store to know anything about waterfowl, at least around here.

I don't know if there are any antibiotics that have been tested on waterfowl. But I do know people use them! I have no idea why I don't have that information down somewhere. I feel like such an idiot.

Good idea, thank you!

That's not a fog, that's some sort of foam. When she wipes it or washes it, the eye is red. I'll get another picture tomorrow after I wash her eye out.
