Bad incubation - assisted hatch - several with wry neck, can they heal?

Hey there, I have struggled to get the correct humidity in my incubator for this clutch and all of them were malpositioned. I read a post about assisted hatching that was amazing and I figured there was nothing to lose so I went for it. Got 6 strong healthy ducklings and one strong duckling with curled toe.

The other 5 hatched out safely, a bit late (29 days)but these all seem to have wry neck - or something else. A long time to start moving after hatching, eyes closed, can't hold head up and moving weirdly/wacky (one's neck will random twist upside down). They were all pointy end up in the egg and neck very bent before hatching. But some of the other strong ones were also like that, so I am wondering if it is a neurological thing or if it could actually be cured with wry neck treatment steps. The humidity went up big time when the others were hatching I there, could this have fried their sweet little brain? ☹️

I absolutely did not follow no touch lock down rule and was very involved in the process, I did my best to keep things steady but ya know 🤷‍♀️.

Anyway, just want to know if it's worth trying to help them or if their fate has been sealed for them?

Thankyou so much for your advice, time and help. ❤️🙏

Welcome to BYC!

Congrats on the hatched ducklings!

Don't knock yourself as you learned a lot!

Both wry neck and curled toes is fixable. The curled toes take a day or so. The wry neck could be weeks.

If you just took them out of the incubator, I'd put them back in for another day first though. Set temp down to 95F. Sometimes these things work themselves out.

If not, then the wry neck ones need Vit E and a little scrambled egg to help E absorb.

The curled toes one needs a small piece of thin cardboard taped with Vetwrap or some type of tape that won't stick to the top of his foot. Here's an article that shows it: https://www.backyardchickens.com/ar...s-with-tape-picture-tutorial-and-video.75247/

Debbie292d has great advice. I don't have experience with incubating but I would say for wry neck it is very important to get on it quick. I had a chick with wry neck and because I started treating her late, it was more difficult to help her neck. Good luck! :)

Wow! Thankyou so so much for your responses, it means the world to me. This forum is such a blessing! I love how us humans all love sharing information to help and support one another in what we love!

So Update! Most of the troubling ducklings all perked up over the day! Omg, yay! I was so glad. It was weird, it was like they had hatches too early but all the yolk had been absorbed and they had pushed themselves out! But after allllooottt of sleep and time, 4 out of the five I was worried about came good and are now sitting up properly and gaining more and more strength as I type. 1 has not changed its state and I'm quite worried for it, I'm hoping another night in the Bator will see change but who knows. I didn't get a chance to make it to the stock feed today but will be going tomorrow for all the supps recomnended for these gorgeous beings need to be strong!

Also update on curled toe fella! Without much done yet, he is really improving! One foot was quite bad and is 50% better now. Supps and foot pads on the way tomorrow. Yay! We have a strong one in him. We called him Spunk cause he has so much of it!

Thanks again guys! Appreciate it so much. God bless! ❤️❤️🙏🙏

Glad to hear they are coming around to normalcy without doing much. I learned the trick of just putting weaker ones back in the incubator for another day always helps them recoup faster.
