BAD mama ducks... BAD!

Well, I got one little girl out of the mess. Her shell membranes kept drying out though and I had to assist since it was hardening on her. She's warm, dry and a noisy peeper for a few hours old. She drinks and poops but doesn't seem strong enough to get on her feet. Her birth was a particularly exhausting ordeal.

She scoots around the box pretty well though. Hope she makes it! She's got such stunning markings.
Daddy was probably the swedish drake and mama was probably one of the layers, but could have been anyone.

Oh my goodness how precious. So happy you have her, any hopes on the others?

"Tapper" now lives in a box next to my desk (or snuggled up in my long hair.) She's doing great! so glad I intervened on her behalf.

I decided to do "eggtopsies" and ALL the rest of the clutch were dead with dry membranes. I think it's just too arrid here to hatch outside this time of year and I think it happened when they were outside with the broodies. The humidity on the 'bator was good when I brought them in for hatching.

I just need a better incubator I think so I can just retire the broodies.

Anyway, here is Tapper!

She's an only duckling, but I think my mom is going to "surprise me" with a feed store duckling to keep her company.
