Hello. I have a broody call duck. She was originally sitting on 15 random unfertilized duck eggs plus a chicken egg or two. I have gradually taken some out of her nest. I want a couple more call ducks so I went ahead and ordered a couple hatching eggs but they are not cheap! I’m worried that I will put them under momma and she will break her broodiness before hatching day. Would it be more prudent to put them in my incubator and set under momma on hatching day if she is still on her nest?

Idk if you've heard but lots say call duck eggs aren't easy to hatch. Those little fat bodies and short bills make it hard for them to get out of the shell.
They do OK incubating it's just the hatch that is the problem. Many babysit, poke safety holes, assist, etc. I don't have much patience and ain't home continously so out of the last probably 40 that I set only 4 hatched. Last year I wasn't even trying any longer but had a young hen go broody and didn't want to give it up. I was pulling eggs from her then one day she had 6 little dirty eggs under her. I was done so I told knock yourself out with those and when they don't hatch maybe you'll listen to me and give it up.
I paid her no mind until one day I found her off the nest taking 5 little ducklings for a dip in a mud puddle. Just my experience but I'll probably never try to incubate any more but will let any that go broody have a nest full.
I've hatched 1,000s of chicks and have several different incubators so I gotta blame the calls for my lack of success with them.
