I have a hen named Sweet. She is under a year old and got a bad peak wound on top of her head. The hen who caused it we are trying to integrate back in the flock after see had healed from a tear on her side. We stuck Sweet in the other hen so she could dry and clean the mud of herself and for some reason the other hen snapped. The injury happen within the past 24 hours because Sweet was placed with the other hen last night and I just checked on them(my sister usually checks the chickens in the morning and I guess she didn't notice) and found the injury. The top of her head is partly torn away and her head is swollen and red. I will be posting pictures after dinner(my dad told me to wait until then) and we will put honey and vetericyn on the wound and the hen that caused the injury has been removed from the cage.

We had put either her or her sister(same breed as Sweet) in there before because sometimes they get covered in mud and it still gets cold here at night and the hen was nice to them so I don't know why she attacked. Sweet is doing good and took the treatment well. Is there anything I can use to decrease the swelling?

Poor chicken. She looks like she is in heaps of pain. It is good she is taking the treatment. I am not sure what you can use to help with the swelling but if I were you I would keep her isolated for a while, even after she is healed and then eventually introduce them back together. This will make sure her wound can’t be pecked back open. You will probably find that once a bird has an injury the others try to kill them because they think that the injured bird will draw the attention of predators, so make sure she is fully healed before you reintroduced her to the flock.
Good luck with your chicken!

It sounds like you had one hen isolated and then stuck the other one (Sweet) in with her? The first hen attacked the 2nd hen, because she was in her isolated territory. Is the first hen still healing from her injury? That could also add to why she attacked Sweet. Basically when you isolate (especially over a length of time) they are new to each other when they see one another even if they have known each other their whole life.
How are you going about reintegrating the first hen? Where has the first hen been removed to?
As far as her injuries, the vetricyn and honey are probably good. There was a supplement mentioned to me - mountain arnica, but I am not sure of the dose.
This was found in a search: https://www.hobbyfarms.com/chicken-first-aid/
Basically the paragraph regarding pain says 5 asprin dissolved in a gallon of water.
Hope she recovers quickly and feels better soon.

Sweet is doing well she drinks and she at least eats some mealworms every day. Her wound is healing and the swelling went down. The first hen has since be put back with the flock and her wound is completely healed. Sweet is in our chick bin where she can see and hear the rest of the flock while she heals and she has a heat lamp. We almost had another bad injury only it was one of my guineas. Yesterday we found his toe was caught on a hanging string. Luckily we found him in time and he looks like he just has a sprain because he has less of a limp and he was roosting this morning.
