Bad roo, BAD ROO!

I have a meanie of a roo. He's an A&M coturnix and he needs his own place (freezer maybe?) and fast. My question is this: If I give him his own harem, would he continue to pick on them or is his behavior due to his environment? He's in a 3x3 cage with 5 other quail--1m/4f. We thought he was a hen until he crowed. When the crowing began, so did the injuries the other birds are sustaining.

I'd remove him, let the others heal, and only put ONE roo in with those 4 hens. 2 roos to four hens is one roo too many and that may have been what the issue is. Some roos just cannot tollerate other roos with their women. THen again theres just some roos that are nasty and need a freezer for a home

Yep, I'm thinking he should be right at home in our freezer. Bad thing is, there's only ONE that needs to be processed and it'll have to hang out in the freezer until there's more roos that need to go. He wasn't a problem until he began crowing. Of course, we didn't know he was a HE until he began crowing.... I'll separate him, let everyone calm down and heal, then stick a girl or two in there with him. First sign of blood, into the freezer he goes! Bad ROO!

Hmmm....quail appetizer...I could do something with that. I didn't go to culinary school for nothin'!

Yeah, this fellow is tearing up the heads of my hens pretty good. He picked at the feet of my other roo and almost tore the nail off his middle toe.

It's just too bad because he's just beautiful! Almost complete snowy white. Just a small pencil-eraser sized brown spot near his right eye. *sigh* Why are the pretty ones alway such butts?

Mine is awfully pretty and he sure can be a stinkpot sometimes!

hey dont be too quick to process him. I have found that the more agressive roos tend to do a better job at fertilising the females. I had replaced a agressive male with a more subdued male and the fertility of the breeding stock plummeted.
