Well, down here it's easy to lose them to fire ants in the summer so I'm glad they want to hatch this time of year when the ants are dug in.
Now I have a broody wanna be who kills her eggs, I think -- watching this at present -- she shoves the original broody over, sits on the eggs, and I suspect pecks at them when she hears/feels something going on. I've tossed two half formed chicks already; saw nothing wrong with them. I switched nests today so the original broody can set, and gave the suspect several golf balls which she is now setting on. Both were still accepting the new arrangement several hours later. Gotcha, kid, they won't wiggle. I hope. Ah, broodies.
