My two new chickens are doing very well thanks to all the advice given by my fellow chicken friends on BYC. Can I ask is it ok for my chickens to be out in bad weather ie rain and storms and snow etc. I usually close their house at night when they go to bed but during the day they have a free run of my garden. When it starts to get colder do I need to do anything specific to their house ? Will they be ok during the winter. Silly question I know but i'm new to all this and all advice is welcome. Thanks

Welcome to BYC!
Ken has provided a couple good links.
For more specific suggestions we would need to know where you are located and what kind of coop run and you have.
Numbers of birds, dimensions of coop/run, and pics are very helpful.

For the most part the chickens are good at deciding whether they want to be out in the elements or not, so I just leave the coop open and let them choose. Mine don't like snow but the rain no longer bothers them that much, so they're usually out in all sorts of rain provided it's not too heavy of a downpour.

Chickens aren't dumb, if it's raining too hard they'll seek cover. My flock dosent mind snow as long as I shovel a walking path, when the winds get bad they hunker down. The only thing you've got to do if you've got any with big combs is get out there with Vaseline and grease those combs so they don't get frostbite when it gets cold.:)
