Our broody hen has been hiding her eggs under our house lately. We didn't see her for about 2 weeks. She came out today. It looked like dirt on her back, but when I lifted up her right wing - oh my goodness - there was a large area with no skin whatsoever! I can see her internal organs. She is acting normal though. I just don't know what happened to her. I don't know how she's alive. I sure don't know what to do about her horrible wound. My 8 year old saw it at the same time as me. She was holding her for me, she is her favorite.

Bring her in and clean her up. Use a 50% peroxide solution and clean her wound the best you can. Apply neosporin, without pain reliever, liberally over the wound. You say you can see her insides? If so, you are going to have to apply a bandage somehow. Wrapping some gauze around her to hold it in place.

Keep her inside where she can be safe, quiet and comfortable. You may want to get some Tylan 50, an antibiotic, to help fight any infection. Plus, make sure that there are no maggots in her wounds.

Good luck, keep us posted.

thanks a bunch. I'm very unset about it.

Will let you know.

thanks again.

Magots?

I'll look that. I'm assuming they will be visible.

Go to the feed store and get some spray for killing screwworms and maggots.

Okay, I have her inside and doctored up. Didn't see any maggots.

Poor chicken.

Thanks for y'alls help.
