I did my first incubator hatch this month with this combo of eggs:
1 olive egg marked blue from DMRippy
3 green eggs marked blue from DMRippy
2 green eggs marked split from DMRippy (lav am splits)
5 brown eggs from my BCM roo and hatchery Barred Rocks
5 blue eggs from my BCM roo and hatchery EEs
All 5 brown eggs hatched, but there are only 2 chicks that look like they came from those eggs, i.e. no muffs, all black, straight combs (so far).
A couple other chicks are dark/black, but look like they have muffs
I bought my roo from a gal who said hers were purebred. We have some BCM breeders in our area, and I'm pretty sure he's not hatchery. No muffs, nothing that looks mutt about him.
My BRs look pretty good for hatchery stock. No mutts.
So why don't my chicks add up? 5 brown eggs should have equalled 5 black (or barred w/yellow head spot) chicks with no muff and straight comb, right??
