I have a mixed breed pullet. She is 8 weeks old. At six weeks she was found on her back and her legs were stretched out behind her. I separated her giving her baby vitamins without iron or calcium. There was no turnaround. I added electrolytes to her diet and offered milk for her to drink the case of a calcium deficiency. Note that the other 13 chick are healthy with no problems. The pullets legs seem week, toes were slightly curled, legs seem to spasm and go out behind the bird, she ends up on her back. She is eating and drinking, has a food with a coccidiostat in it. I gave vitamin B, electrolytes, vitamin E. Still no changes. It seems if we wrap the chicken in a dish cloth she remains in a natural position for a while but the legs just won't work. She is not doing the splits. At this point, I've read everything about Marecks, I still don't know. There is no stargazing going on, just rolling over onto her back. Thoughts? I keep thinking if we keep trying she'll get better...

It could be Mareks or a vitamin deficiency, but coccidiosis has been found to be the cause of these symptoms in chickens that have been necropsied. I would try giving her a 5 day course of Corid, the same ingredient in the medicated feed, only a stronger amount to trea an outbreak. Dosage is 1 1/2 tsp of Corid powder per gallon of water for 5 days. I would also give her riboflavin (vitamin B2 orally.)

Thank you. I will start that treatment for her now.
