Bagpipers anyone?

I know I played a clarinet in 8th grade but it is more than 25 years ago. Not sure if I can play the bagpipes in that same manner as the clarinet.

I don't know if it is me but when I play UTube I hear the drones, the low pitch hums that I hear but rarely I ever hear the high pitches of the chanter. Am I tone deaf or what????? I see their fingers playing but dont know if the drones play whatever tunes they are playing.

I know you had to have a good set of lungs....time to exercise them.

I know folks tell me do NOT buy the bagpipes from Pankistan and get the McCollem or Hamilton? bagpipes. I don't think I can afford one but I do not need to practice if it is going to strawk like a bad player!

I think now I know what "slow airs" are....slower and haunting. I love it!

Any on UTube that you enjoyed?

This one is MANY:

The bagpipes from Pakistan are cheap crap (really, don't go there). I know the others are more, but you will save yourself a world of discouragement if you buy a better quality instrument. Also, a clarinet is a single reed, bagpipes are double (but capped). So it does take a lot of air

- but your background will help when it comes to reading music, etc. Save and look for a used better one! i

I can not read the sheet music for all it is worth! However I can convert the music dots to letters (like a guitar) and play it from there. Seeing all those notes on a music chart lines makes it blurry for me and hard to see if it is a C or a D without counting the lines to find out which notes it is!

I know the finger holes are different than a clarinet.

Double reed???????? I thought the chanter has one reed, not two unless the other one is in the drones.

Chanters are usually double reeded also, but they are capped- so it has a reed like an oboe (well, between that and a basson). The drones have their own! You will have a lot of fun playing them
