Bagpipers anyone?

There is a member on here from Utah, "Grandpiper" who is a great bagpipe player... I heard him play in back in Illinois last summer.

One of my friends and her dad play the bagpipes... Thay played at a wedding recently.. the couple's last name was Ireland.

Never played an oboe! LOL! I would love to try to squeeze the living daylights out of the bag and hear it scrawk! Or nails on blackboard kind of thing LOL!

Hubby really wants to play but have problems with his right fingers due to the dexterity and I told him if he can do some slow airs like Amazing Grace, at least he will not have to play jigs. I do not think a handicap would stop a bagpiper from playing. I am sure they improvise somewhere!

Mahroni, where is Grandpiper???? Missing in action somewhere?

Can someone tell me how I can find a manufactor's names on bagpipes?

Found one that can be a nice display.....but seller does not know of the manufactor's name. I would nto be surprise if it is Pakistan made.....perfect for wall hanging LOL!

But to play one, I dunno if I can afford the pricey ones!

If you want to do it properly, you should be OK with a set made in Scotland.

If you are still interested in all kinds of Celtic musical instrument, go here:

Bagpipes were used to scare off Roman soldiers on Hadrian's Wall and those guys didn't scare easily. Bagpipes can be heard from miles away and only a very few expert players can make them sound like a musical instrument. All other players settle for an imitation of a cat being strangled and their practicing is frequently interrupted by visits from the police and child protection agencies. These amazing devices were intended for use in remote parts of the Scottish Highlands and some people believe that is where they should have stayed. Get the written permission of your neighbours for 20 miles around before you start to play. Also alert the military that your playing is not a siren warning of an enemy attack. You will need to make the thing a nice comfortable bed and feed it a saucer of milk at bedtime.

THAT is what my daughter did, she used the Dr Suess cat like a bagpipe!!!!!!!! Mouthpiece is the tail, the one leg for the chanter and rest of the legs are the drone while the body was neatly tucked under her arm! And she would hum LOUD to play Amazing Grace and marched around the house!

Gotta love her creativity on improvising a bagpipe instrument!
