This would be my first attempt at hatching. I am attempting 18 eggs (6 black copper marans and 12 EE). I started them on Sunday night (2/13). I started my incubator a few days before and had it by a window (had to move it to th kitchen because the temp was fluctuating alot due to the outside temp change). I put the eggs in and monitored the temp and it seemed a tiny bit low and turned it up...too far...the temp sat at 110 degrees for about 8 hrs...did I kill my chickies? This is a still air incubator and the thermostat is sitting on top of the eggs. Is is too early to candle (or float) check them?

Thanks

Kristy

The eggs I set on 2/13 are already visible by candling, but NOT my maran eggs. Try the EE eggs. If they are still growing, there is a good chance the BCMs made it, too.

Good luck!

You never know. My first hatch survived 113 degrees, and my current hatch was at 107 for a few hours and were still alive when I candled! Incubate them and candle at like day 7 to see if they are moving, and write down what you see in each one, then try candling again at day 10 to see if theres any change from what you wrote down about each egg.. You might still be ok. Good luck. When I candle at 5 days,I always see something.

Sadly, you have probably rendered them infertile. Even if they are alive- it is unlikely they will develop correctly. I would crack one open- and see if it is soft boiled or a normal consistency. I did the same thing once- temp way too high and the eggs actually partially cooked. If the consistency is off- I would chuck the whole lot. If it looks ok, or even looks fertile (blood vessels), I would continue with the eggs and candle at one week when it will be more obvious.

My other comment is that don't put in the eggs you care about until you are very confident with the bator controls and trust it. Run it with eggs you don't care about for several days- like infertile supermarket eggs. I also don't like the still air models- I had one for a while and temps varied too much depending on where the eggs were in the thing.

Think about retrofitting it with a fan?

eeek i have a similar questions im hatching 12 eggs for someone else on there incubator and last night for some reason the temp went down to 91 degrees it was only at that for about 15-30 minutes before i was able to catch it and turn it up will the eggs be ok? they are 8 days along!

that happened to me was down to 91....everyone said better low then high spike.....mine are still moving around and on day 12

shew that makes me feel a little bit better im not sure why it did that either the temps in my room were the same so it must have just been the incubator itself i hope this one holds out untill i can get mine and set it up

So...last night...after turning my possibly baked babies...I tried to candle them and see if it was even worth turning anymore...and...I saw little tiny chickies swiming around (soooo cute and rewarding)...I did it to 3 of them and all 3 showed signs of life...so at this point (day 7 yesterday) they are still alive!! I am super happy!!
