Yes, you can find it at a feed stone. And as stated above, I think the granules work best! PDZ is a FABULOUS addition. We use just a little in our brooder with 4 ducklings and there is NO smell.
 
thanks for the tip! my next tsc trip will include sweet pdz for sure :) i sure do love the little guys but their poop smells like rotting cantaloupe. yuck!

Here in the Netherlands we have a product called Minus Mite. It's crystalline powder, 80% baking soda + 20 % siliciumdioxide (silica). It's sold to kill mites. The producent claims the baking soda is the effective ingrediënt, not silica. (but then why is silica in it?) It's been used a lot by professional chicken keepers, so it seems to work.

So I'd say baking soda would be safe to use, for odour controll and against mites.
