Bald Behinds??!!

WHy are my chickens pulling out the feathers on thier backs, right before thier big tail feathers.
It is not breed specific, because 80% of my mixed flock is doing it.
Is it egg laying behavior?

Do you have a rooster? Bare backs are usually attributed to his claws tearing feathers out or their molt. Bare bottoms are usually the molt, though you should always check them for lice/mites just to be sure. How old are they? The big molt comes about 18 months old, but they do several mini molts before that.

had....a roo. but not for about 2 months.
will the feathers grow back in?
will they all go through this?
