Bald eagle nest around

We have a nesting pair of bald eagles less than a mile from our house. They’ve been around for years, and I’ve never lost a chicken to one that I know of. I think they prefer an easier meal like roadkill. We have a big slough across the road from our house, and thousands of geese come through during migration and sit in the slough. Every now and then they get SUPER noisy and they all lift off the water at the same time. That’s because there is an eagle buzzing the slough, looking for a sick or injured goose.

We have hawks and eagles around here too. An eagle took a friends rooster.
They don't get the white heads and tails until they are around 4/5 years old.

We just got a rooster today. Its a buff silkie so it can't really defend our birds, but it will be a great warning sign for our chickens.

I don't think the Eagles will come close as easily as a hawk. They seem more leery than the hawks, but you never know. Last fall we had one sit in a tree in the yard during a storm right over my silkies. I discovered that a standard pullet was missing. Told people over the winter that an eagle took her. We found her body stuck in the wood pile a few weeks ago. Turns out The Eagles have never really taken one of my birds. We are surrounded by Eagles and hawks but neither have taken any birds in 7 years of free ranging. I believe my roos and bushes, as well as, a loose dog have protected them. And yes if the eagletts are most likely hatched by now.
There is a mom and kid eagle that has a next a block away from my yard. They have all of a sudden been hanging out in a tree that overhangs where my ducks are. I don't think it's a coincidence. They may not want them now, but I think they are keeping an eye on them just in case they need food. I have to figure out some netting and whatever else I can to deter them.
