Hello everyone,

This morning I heard my male duck quacking like crazy and when I went to go check if he was okay I noticed an eagle sitting on the pool fence. I went outside as quickly as I could and scared him away. I don’t know if he was thinking of scooping my duck or if interested in the fake eggs I had on my duck pen or the fake owl on top of my pen house. I kept my ducks inside their pen all day today. Any advice on how to keep them safe?

Thank you,

He is interested in your ducks. He will be back. It may be necessary to keep them in their pen for a while.
I have chickens and have noticed both bald eagles and hawks flying above, they have been keeping thrmselves in the coop, is this because of the hawks or bald eagles, i have a covered pen i thought it would have kept them out, we also have one mouse that i have seen, so i dont know if they were going after the chickens or the mouse. Hope you can keep your flock safe!

There is also bird-netting that you can buy - We have put that over the duck "tractor" that we move around the yard so they can be on the grass safely.

I live on a RIver where Eagles fly up and down River every day like clockwork. They are incredibly scared of human's so I wonder if putting up a scarecrow would help..... ? Just occurred to me to try that even though it's been 20years of Eagles being that close to my chickens who free-range and never choosing to go after them as they are focused on Salmon. If you're inland and saw one that close up, he's probably pretty hungry and lacking a constant food source so be careful.

Yeah, I never seen one so close! I live in a suburban neighborhood in Phoenix, Az so you really don’t see a lot of eagles around or any other wildlife actually. I had seen an eagle a couple of months ago around my neighbors but it was just flying up in the air and never saw it after that day.
