Bald spot - moulting or fighting?

I think you are right, those look like pin feathers.

I would be worried about that blood. Do chickens bleed when they moult?
I guess they are called "blood feathers" (from the research I did on here). I guess if they don't stop bleeding you have to pluck them out or the bird could bleed to death, but I was told to just leave them and not pluck them as they quit bleeding. Her tail feathers are growing back in now, so it is good. It was very scary though!

Here was her neck you can see the pin feathers some:

Some look like little paint brushes, you can see the black on the ends.

Hey there Three Silkies. Yeah, looks like a molt to me also

Cluckies that blood is a little concerning to me also. As I mentioned, I am no expert on molting but that does look more like traumatic feather loss than a molt. Was she molting and your feather pullers took it as an invitation to pull some also?

This is my poor little Dusty during her molt:

This is what she normally looks like:

Hi there Cluckies .. you posted while I was creating my post.

Blood Feathers ... something I have learnt today and something for me to research; thank you :)

I am pleased to hear that her feather's are growing back and yep, it sure can be scary! Very pretty chicken!

I'm glad her tail feathers are growing back. What a beautiful chicken. I like her colouring.

Thank you, here she was before the molt

I know right? I learn something on this site every day! I'm so glad for this site, it has helped me so many times! (and I've only had my girls since May when they were born!)

I have silkies and during summer they all went through a moult. Mine lost more around the neck area... And the new feathers came through fast.., there was no blood although recently my hen at the bottom of the pecking order has blood nears stumps of feathers on her head... Iv always suspected her being pecked... Any ideas how I stop this so she can regain some hair?!

If the feathers were on her back i'd say get a hen saddle. Since they are on her head, you could get pinless peepers for the ones who are picking on her. Other than that, I don't know.

You could spray her head with blukote, especially if there is blood you would want to. If the other chickens see the blood, they would peck her more, possibly kill her. I've had to spray a couple of mine.
