alot of my hens have been geting these bald spots on there backs and wings, at first i thought it was my roos doing it to them but more then 2 weeks ago i moved them to ther own pen, and its still happenig, is this the first stage of a molt? i know there no bugs on them and my hens r not to mean to eachouther so if anything there just walking up behind them and take the freather sprouts. ive seen a few bleading but im not sure what to do about this

Ohhh and i know its the hens doing it because i cant remember the last time one of my roos had a tail but hes growing one now that hes not with his ladys

i just made them some eggs and put it in there lay mash. crossing my fingers lol

You have a feather plucker in your flock, I have hens that look exactly like yours and have seen the little devil in action, same spots too! It was a long winter they began to pluck about two months ago after being locked up in the coop for a few months, they get bored and start to pick on ecah other, also can be due to low protein in their diet.

well im going to start feeding them some eggs every now and then, ill c what happens i hope they stop this im sick of my birds not haveign tails lol

lol i think all my hens do it,my poor jersey giant roo has never had a tail, that pick of him is the most tail ive seen him have

Looks like it started with rooster lovin', then the hens went a pickin'. Usually feathers lost like that will not grow back until next moult. You can tell it is moulting because old feathers are pushed out by pin feathers before falling off, and the skin does not turn red.

but doesnt the hens stop laying when they molt? because my hens r egg laying monsters
