I started raising chickens last spring and been enjoying tremendously. We have an urban lot in the city and have five hens-2 Ameraucanas, a Rhode Island Red, a black Wyandotte, and a Buff Orphington. This spring, we bought three more chicks-a Buff Orphington, a Plymouth Barred Rock and a Silver Laced Wyandotte. They are 3 weeks old. A week and half ago, my Silver Laced Wyandotte chick was having trouble walking and getting around in the temporary coop. (We have the 3 babies under a heat lamp in the house until they are big enough to introduce to the rest of the flock.) She seemed to be eating and drinking, but walking was hard for her for approximately 3 days. We don't know what caused this or if she was injured somehow? Now she is spry again and getting around easily, but she is smaller in size compared to the other chicks and her down is not being replaced by feathers. She is starting to look bald in areas. Has anyone else had this problem? I'm not sure if she has a deficiency in her diet or could be diseased? The other two chicks are thriving. Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I bought 5 Jersey Giants, and they all had the chick fuzz and looked very healthy. Then they started to get their feathers which came in well on four of them , One didn't it looked really bad, bald in spots no fuzz or feathers. It still now at fourteen weeks still has bald spots and still has some of its chick fuzz . It looks funny but healthy.
I started a thread about it and I was told by several people that it look like a late feathering gene that some birds are born with and it can take a long time for their feathers to come in. Look it up in the learning section on this site. Makes for great reading and question asking.
Good luck with your chick .
