Balding chicken

I have a 10 month old chicken that is completely bald on her rear end and her belly. She just began laying pullet eggs and I'm wondering why would she be loosing her feathers this time of year? It's getting cold . . . won't she freeze?

I don't know the answer, but here's a link to some info about feather loss. It could just be molting this time of year. Are new feathers coming in?
