Ball on toe

I got 4 chicks from a feed and seed, 2 RIR & 2 Dominique. One of each of them appear to have a hard round ball on a couple of their toes. I first thought it was just dried poop due to so many chicks in the brooder. I have had them for 2 weeks now and it's still there. I have tried soaking in water, nothing changed. Any ideas would be helpful and appreciated.

I got it off yesterday. Took soaking and working it for a good 20 min, but it cam off and her foot is ok.
