Question ? I have a 28 week old pullet who have been laying a great eggs, yesterday she pushed a balloon looking small egg it was not developed all the way yet follow by a yolk only. She was very active after and all day today. Once again around the same time today she did the same thing … she pushed a ballon looking small white soft egg that was not formed like an egg yet and maybe 5 hours later a yolk came out ? What is a cause ? Why all of the sudden we have this glitch ? Is it lack of calcium ? She have oyster shells and egg shells available and good layer feed with oyster shells. They free range and have a daily salads with veggies. I would say the diet is good. She is active and free range and eat and drink fine. Poop is looking good. Anyone else came across issue like this?

Were there any issues with her shells prior to the first balloon eggs?
It is good to keep oyster shell available in a separate container. However, since layer feed is already 4% calcium, you don't want to add oyster shell to the feed. You stand the chance of overdosing calcium if the chickens want to eat.
Shell problems aren't always a calcium problem, often it can be an imbalance in the ratio of phosphorus to calcium. That can happen from too much calcium in the diet.

No there was no issues with eggs prior to this. For a week she actually gave me an egg a day with a beautiful hard shell … last egg was bit bigger then normal and then the next day in less then 25 hrs she made a ballon egg follow by a yolk and this happen again today .. she eats drinks and is active as normal no issues with her other then ballon egg .. it’s almost like she is producing an egg too fast and she have not enough calcium to form an shell ( if there is such a thing ) ?
