Balut or Khai Luk

Do you boil them straight out of the incubator? I figured they'd cool off first (like for 24 hours) which would likely kill them... but maybe it wouldn't.

that may depend on the culture as to how it is prepared I googled "preparing balut" and found a coupla different ways to do it I grew up around vietnamese and Filipinas and it seems like they each had their own ways of preparing it bI was just talking with a Filipina lady the other day was wondering if I could hep her with it she was kina older 50++ish

I'd never heard of balut...just looked it up on Wikipedia...kinda wish I hadn't. :gag: It's interesting how much culture affects us. You grow up eating a chicken or duck embryo whole in the egg and you think-- yum! You first hear of it when you're 29, and your recently consumed dinner feels like it might be making another appearance.

if you have your eyes closed and they gave you a boiled egg to bite in to, and then they gave you Balut, you would not now the difference, it's just in your mind. Once you start to think about it then you are done , just be brave

If you're trying to make your poultry a paying proposition then selling partially incubated eggs for balut may be one way to go about it if you have folks that want them.

I wouldn't just write the idea off without thinking about it first.

If it tastes the same, then I think I'd stick to the much easier plain boiled egg.

But it is interesting about how cultural some of these things are. We, as a culture, are pretty squeamish when it comes to our meat.

I know it's a cultural thing , but it reminds me of a bad frat boy initiation.

Well I think all baby lives are important. If someone affered me 100$ an egg id reject them , life is worth more than that, (now ill go eat a meat filled sandwich, NOT !

I thought they steam the eggs? I watched some travel show sometime back and literally lost my snack cake. It is true, that perception all comes down to culture and the mind.....but I am quite sure I could not or would not eat one.
