Balut?

Friends of ours went to Californina and while they were out there, they tried this...Not sure how she liked it, but he didn't mind it, he's got a stomach of steal...lol now I think I would probably gag, put not really wanting to try it either...

No, I wasn't curious to try it. I could go the "dog-on-a-stick" but never could stomach the balut. I was just asking about the making process. Some people at work have been buying fresh eggs from me, but there are also several filipino and vietnamese and it just got me thinking....

Duck eggs are usually used in Fillipino kitchens, but Asian markets sell both duck and chicken balut eggs. The fertile eggs we used for our incubation project on Trader Joe's Fertile eggs are sold for Balut.

I have not tried balut, but the majority of the Asian foods I have tried, even though they may look weird in comparison to the Irish-American foods I grew up on, have been fabulously delicious. I would not criticize another culture's food just because I saw someone behaving rudely with it on a video on YouTube. Most of us here DO eat chicken, just at a different stage.

Only if I were starving could I attempt it. It makes my tummy squirm with the thought!

You guys ever watch that guy on TV who travels the world eating bizarre foods, his name just left me. Bald headed guy. Andrew Zimmerman maybe? I find that watching his show helps with depressing appetite. When I feel like sucking down a bag of chocolate chip cookies (and I can suck down a whole bag in a few minutes

) Then I switch him on and get grossed out LOL Great diet method. LOL
