Bam pays the ULTIMATE PRICE

I too hunt to eat. I always tell my "trophy hunter" friends I've never seen a recipe that calls for antlers.

I know of a recipe that calls for sliced antlers and the velvet that falls off of young bucks. Gotta translate all the ingredients though since it is not written in English, then after it is in English, gotta figure out what the herbs are in English terms.

So post a couple of pictures of the bear. You have a lot of guts to get that close to the critter. What if you missed? The bear would have you before you could get another arrow into it. You were lucky.

Did you find someone to process the bear?

You also didn't tell people the difference between wet and dry aging. I prefer dry aging, love the musty bold flavor (Rarely done anymore). Dry aging concentrates the beef flavor because some of the water evaporates off. Almost ALL the beef in stores now is "wet" aged, aged in a vaccum packed wrapper or container.

FYI You never age pork. I am sure you know but alot of people on here won't. Goat and sheep you also don't have to age thou I have known some people that do.

People Eat The Animals!!

PS Congrats on the clean kill. Not many people take the time to learn to use a bow let alone hunt with it. Do you actually hunt still or just wait for animals to come to you

My brother-in-law was watching over me with a 30/30 and I had my 357. If I missed at that distance, I deserve anything the bear would have done to me. I have more faith in a clean kill with a bow than a gun.
Yes, I was lucky the bear went away from me, but she was dead within steps. I will NEVER post photos of dead animals. If I can ever figure out how to post on this site, I will post photos of the federal trapper settting up a trap for one of the bears. I processed the bear myself. Most I smoked, the rest I dried. Bear makes better bacon than pig. We have many bear sightings atound here every week. Just last week there were three, the week before there were four. One of which was at a girl scout camp. This bear came right into the dinning area and wouldn't leave. The girls were all yelling at it, finally a deputy got it out. We also have a few mountian lion sightings.
We wouldn't have to kill these animals if the city retirees would keep their trash picked up. They don't understand why I have a pulley
in the tree so I can keep my trash can off the ground. They learn the hard way.
I am getting ready to move higher up the mountian in a few years. To many people here. In the winter when the leaves come off the trees I can see the lights of eight houses.

Yes, I have seen them using those bear traps. I have a summer home up on the rim, and every September they have an Octoberfest up there. It is in September, because in October you would freeze your butt off. Anyway, before the big party, they set out these traps which are just huge corrugated tubes and trap the bears. Then they truck them so far back into the woods that the party is over by the time they walk back home.

So far, we haven't had a problem with the bears, but the neighbors did. A bear went into their yard and ate up all of the tulip bulbs. I planted daffodils, and they tell me the bears won't eat them.
