Bobcat has made it personal

For future: I’d recommend keeping LGDs.
Edit to add: More than one
Our dogs, a border collie and corgi, chased off the one and only bobcat I've ever seen here in a decade. I know they're here as there are people that get permits to shoot them and saw a couple drug out from the tree line.

Those two dogs vs bear is a little different. The corgi runs about 10 feet back behind the border collie, who stands her ground. The last time I was right there and called them in. Four cubs were up in our trees, and momma was upset. We all backed off, and they came down and left. No damage that time.

Not downing LGDs, but a cheaper route sometimes works too. We didn't get them for this, though; it just so happens they naturally protect our property and keep the chickens safe.

If it's possible to bring in LGD we have a wildlife trail between our two pastures. Bears/big cats and they walk right by us and go to other farms. My current team is 2 presa's and my remaining senior Caucasian. I really like the presa's as a general farm dog, High prey drive yes, but much more relaxed then my corso was, who was excellent but always a bit more edgy. A suitable dog presence to handle your type of predator will help and watch after you. Lots of available older experienced LGD teams already experienced and being rehomed. https://www.facebook.com/groups/702673315319452 just have to be selective in finding a good team. Be safe.

We have three Great Pyrenees to guard our animals. We just don’t want to take a chance on losing them.
In these mountains, we have bear, bobcat, mountain lion, coyote, coy wolves, fox, raccoon, skunk, etc.
Back in early 2000s some idiots thought would be a good idea to reintroduce wolves here to control the coyote population.
They just mated and now we have coy wolves. 🙄
This man in GA had two LGDs. Great story. Extraordinary dog.

I'd hate to shoot a bobcat, I love cats and Bobcats are beautiful... But this one is too bold and not afraid of humans. I would be worried about my kids.
All wildlife is a nuisance, but we are taking over every bit of space. Also set up rat traps, and carpet tacks nailed to flat boards at entry points

That bobcat is way too bold, as much of a shame it is, that bobcat needs to be put down. Even if you can get him to leave you alone he might try his luck elsewhere and if he's that unafraid of humans he might try taking someone's child, your son is right to be nervous here. Either bait the cat with some fish and shoot or trap the cat first and shoot if you aren't confident in your aim

I set out a camera at the break of daylight this morning with some tasty fish filets and stabbed a can of sardines and hung it in a tree on the path it ran when he grabbed my birds. It's not to far from my house so I'm hoping that if something gets in maybe it may be in earshot. I hate to kill it but it is entirely to bold. We have a half mile walk just to the bus stop which is now terrifying for the boy. I haven't let my poor birds out and their pen is nowhere near done enough to let them run so I have birds in cages everywhere and that too is breaking my heart

Hi Everyone. Hope all is well. Some of you know I've been having a battle with a bobcat and black bear. The bear learned his lesson so to speak bc he hasn't been back (knock on wood) in a month. Mr.kitty however missed my leg by 2 foot at my kitchen door day before yesterday and grabbed one of my White Crested polish that I was just holding and putting. If that cat would have somehow missed his mark on my poor bird it would have landed in my kitchen. So today I have declared open season. Any and all tips on ridding my property of this problem. I have electric fence, motion lights, radio at night all kinds of noise and movement for night but this guy is attacking between Noon and around 3 daytime. I have contacted my DNR and have a kill permit for both bear and cat. I have a freezer full of fish and a lot of patience. I don't want to use one of my babies as bait but I have 3 roosters that I cannot catch to put them up to protect them.. any and all tips are greatly appreciated. If I get any pictures of him on my camera I'll be sure to post. Thanks in advance. Attached is a picture of my 7year old sitting where the bobcat grabbed our bird about an hour before it happened. He won't even go outside at this point. (Squirrel is the little rooster pictured he doesn't quite know he's a chicken)
Maybe a live trap? I can catch about any local critters here with one. Including skunks!
