BamaChicken Blue Orps

Emptynest one of the breeders in England told me to get the type right and then you can get the eye color right. Although blue boy has gold eyes he does have a majoritiy black eyed chicks. Your black is really a nice looking Cockeral. I think I am going to take some pics and let everyone quess about two young black Orps I have as to whether they are pullets or late blooming cockerals.

That is good advice. I will not stress so much about the eye color at this point and concentrate on the type. I would love to see some pics of your black orps.

Here is a 19 week old cockeral. I have him and one other that I have been saving for breeding this season. His comb and wattles are great. I like the body type on the other one best and the comb on this one best. I will keep them both for till they turn 12 months and then make a decision on permanent status. They are out of a cock that weighs 14 lbs. Their moma hens are huge too. Show birds. So I am expecting a lot out of these two.

They are black Orpingtons. The young black cockerals are 19 weeks old. Orpingtons don't reach full maturity in growth till 18 months. They are not nearly the size they will be. That black pullet was 6 months old when that photo was made.
