I found some nice bamboo (very sturdy) that someone tossed away. Is it a good idea to use them as roosts, or is bamboo too slick for the chickens to grip?

Thank you

I have some bamboo growing in my garden and hadn't even considered using it for the new chicken house I'm building,

I can't believe I didn't think of it before,

They're a bit thin on their own so I'll try binding a few together and see if they'll use them, what did you mean about them getting frost bite?
Thanks for the idea!!!

In freezing temps, when a chicken roosts, the perch needs to be wide enough so the bird can completely cover its toes with feathers. Bare toes at night = frostbite.
For large fowl that means about 2" or more of flat surface. At a minimum a 2X4 placed vertically.
