poop trays

You can use your Amazon cartons and just fold them up and put them in your recycling
A request: please don’t put dirty cardboard, paper etc that is contaminated by chicken doots into recycling bins. The recyclers can’t use them, and they might contaminate an entire batch. (I don’t think I want my Cheerios box made of poop liner. 🤢)

Tear them up, if you’re able, and add them to your compost pile. You’ve got both your carbon and nitrogen ready to do magic.

Ok more questions. Be patient you'll eventually completely ignore me. " Man this guy asks alot of questions!"

How far below the lowest roost should the trays be located? I figure that it needs to be maybe 6 to 8 inches minimum? Too much lower wastes space as it would be harder to wander around under the trays. Or I may put the nesting boxes under there.

How much does a chickens butt hang over? They are large chickens eventually. Do they roost facing forwards I would assume. May as well see whats going to eat you huh? It matters with tray placement.

I found rubber boot trays on sale for 1.79. Bought 11, dont need quite that many but Ill find other uses. 18x30
6-8" below the roost sounds good to me. I'd guess my largest birds' butts hang down 4" at most. No, chickens don't always face forward on the roost.

I've seen people use boot trays-you can get them at TSC. However, since the automotive shop that my spouse owns has a lot of cardboard boxes, I use it under my roosts. Once a week, I roll the dirty cardboard up, burn it, and replace with new cardboard. Works great for me.
I do the same. Every couple of days I pull out the cardboard with the poop, dispose of it in the trash and put in new cardboard. Lots of Amazon boxes in my life. Sometimes I dump the poop on the cardboard into the compost pile before throwing the cardboard away. I use the flaps that have tape on them so don't compost those. And, it keeps the moisture lower in the hen house by removing the poop every couple of days.

Someone recommended poop trays under the roosts. Sounds like a good idea. I was thinking commercial baking pans. Found a good deal but they are an hour away where I almost never go. What ideas do you guys have. I can make metal ones but not sure how large of sheets I have.
I use a long growbag trays under the perch. I bought them online. I use old newspapers to line them then sprinkle with shavings. So easy to clean out and wash.

We have a single roost but have a tarp mounted underneath with metal eye hooks to attach the tarp to. Just unhook the tarp, slide it out and ump it/clean it off and your done.
