Bamboo roosts

I found a few posts on bamboo, but nothing seemed to be definitive, so--

A neighbor cut some BIG bamboo down-- probably 4-6 inches around on some of them. Anyone use bamboo for roots? Another poster wondered if it might be too hard or slick for chickens to like, but I could always score it a bit. Would love to hear from someone with experience!

I have a piece of thick bamboo, very slippery, so I don't think it will work.

I think if you sand it down it might work. Or put duct tape on it
