Bamboo roosts?

Good idea or Bad? How lg. should they be for heavy stardard breeds? How long are your roosts??

We have Bamboo in our coop as well as branches and the birds roost on it just as much as the branches. No problems so far.

Whether or not it's a good idea depends more on the size of your birds, and how cold your climate gets. A chicken's roost should be broad enough that their feet (especially toes if it gets cold) will be covered by their own feathers while the bird is sleeping.

I have two fat pieces of bamboo for daytime roosting, but heavy wooden dowels in their "bedroom" lol!! So far they haven't broken the bamboo but I laughed for days over whoever posted about their fat chickens breaking the roost they were all sitting on!! That image just cracked me up!!!
