I have a polish Cockerel that just got away from us tonight, and had me scared... I plan on showing him for 4-H, but really like letting him run around the yard, but like I said, tonight he ran off, I think due to his bad Eyesight. Any one have tips and techniques I can use to band his feathers back so he can SEE where he's going instead of just puttering around the yard like a lost puppy? Thanks for any info.

Well I've never heard banding the feathers before, but I do know that you trim them so that the chicken can see. Only the ones that get in his way, and be careful not to trim to far up because you may make him bleed. Now I don't know if there any rules in 4-H as far as cutting the feathers there may be certain lengths or something that you may have to follow or maybe not. It may be something you want to check. When cutting he feathers you can use regular scissors or purchase scissors mean for hair (because they are sharper)which ever works for you!

Good luck in your show!
