I was thinking of banding my guineas just in case what do you think 🤔. Ok sorry a little back story of why I want to do this I used to have guineas and they got out and ran away never to be seen again vowed I would never get them again because it devastated my daughter so badly well needless to say they were 99c and she talked me into it I really don’t want that to happen again so if they were banded they could be returned if found

You can purchase numbered metal leg bands for them but will need to wait until they are adults to put them on.

for my own identification purposes, I use different color plastic wire ties and keep changing them until they are adults. Care must be taken to make sure the leg bands never get tight enough to cut off circulation.

If you do try to band them, wait until dark. I would not bother trying to wrangle them during the day - they're too alert, too fast, and too likely to get injured in the process.

Even after the sun goes down and they're fairly subdued, you'll have an easier time of it if you can get another person to help you. One to hold the bird, one to attach the band.

I have six 5 week old keets and was considering this myself. I heard one making the female "buckwheat" call yesterday for the first time and thought it would be useful to keep track of who the ladies are. But none of my birds are banded, so I was just looking up what the banding options are today.

With plastic zip ties, is it possible they can get it caught somehow and cut off circulation?

I have never had any problem with the bands being caught on anything. Individual birds may not like their bands and will just clip them off. The plastic zip ties will not last forever and may need to be replaced from time to time.
