Is bank run sand okay for the run? From what I understand from Google, it have various sized pieces of sand, not uniform size like play sand. I also don't believe its been "washed". At only $7 a yard it seems like a great material to use.

If you can, I would go and look at it. We get it for the driveway or barn sometimes and it can be fairly nice and clean where I wouldn't have a problem using it in a coop or run, or it can be full of clay mud type stuff and absolutely filthy.

That is what I used. In this area its called "torpedo sand". I use it in the hen house instead of shavings or straw and I surrounded the coop with it. The girls can also use it as grit. Make sure its clean and all sand. No dirt. Go for it. You wont regret it.

Another question (maybe w silly one). Is it a cubic yard they sell it in when they say $7/yrd? If so, 1 yard seems sufficient for my 6'x8' run, correct?

We buy it by the ton around here and usually figure stone at somewhere between 1.5-2 tons per cubic yard. So I would assume that 1 yard should be plenty for that size run. But I would check to be sure that cubic yard is what they mean, for all I know somebody somewhere is selling it like carpet.
