Bankrupt? tell me all you know about doing it?

I did not know that! Can I tell them that they are going against the law and Im reporting them when they reach me???

You certainly can, just play dumb and get info first... where are they calling from, who are you speaking with? Document date and time and the number they called. THEN spaz on them, tell them you are turning them in and hang up..

ETA: Keep a little spiral log book of all of your info r/t the calls.

I'd tell you not to stress, but thats unreasonable so instead ill say embrace the lunesta and get some sleep!

YUp, I have the address if you need it and they DO send a letter to them telling them that it is against the law to call you at work. They cannot harrass you like that and put your job in jeopardy. HIGHLY illegal. If enough people report the same company, they will find them BIG bucks.............
Document names, times, etc................

YOU REALLY should consult a bankruptcy attorney PRONTO. They usually give you a few hours gratise and you need to spill your guts about EVERYTHING you have out there.

Dealing with a bankruptcy is absolutely no walk in the park. Reason, the attorneys are going to try to do the least for the money and the person appointed to you by the FEDERAL bankruptcy court will the RELENTLESS in trying to find your assets and they use extreme emotional and psycological techniques to get you to "fiss up". They will fire off letter after letter and intiminate you as much as they feel necessary.

They CAN drag you into the court and put your under oath. They can have the assessor (the people that come to your property to determine the state of your affairs), come to your property time and again.

The law itself is a well place and necessary thing, but the people in charge of your case can put you into a nightmare that usaully lasts for at least eighteen months, sometimes longer.

Oh sure, your are "dismissed" in about 90 days. BUT..... you can be "revoked" (and they tend to use this often), if you do not comply to EVERY want they may have.

Ultimately the Judge determines when enough is enough, but the judges usually give your case worker as much time and power as they see fit.

Good Luck, think about this carefully and be prepared for an emotional ride you will never forget.

But first you have to contact all of them and tell them you are filing and give them atty info. Otherwise they will call, you can tell them you have an atty and give a #, then they will stop. I did credit card collections for almost 6 years for a big mean nasty CC company.

Other than that, I have no advice. It's tough out there, I know. We are hurting too.

In most states it's not against the law. Now, the company I worked for would not call the biz phone we had if you told us you couldn't get calls at work, but that was their way of being nice, it's not law.

ETA

I thought about this for a bit and I am wrong kind of. To get a collector to stop calling your place of work, you need to submit a written, signed, and dated letter stating you can no longer receive calls at ###-###-####. My company did do no calls at the biz phone on a verbal notice, but we were being "nice". There are some states where you can't call a place of biz at all and there are other states where there are funky laws about how often etc. OP is in NY, and unless they changed laws since Oct of last year, NY is not one of the states with funky laws about BP.

In New York State -it is against the law - it was one of the first things Elliot Spitzer did when he got into office was set the rules for creditors and they DO need to be adhered to. Yes, you do have to tell them they cannot call you DURING BUSINESS HOURS, after that, they need to stop. I went to the attorney general route with more than one creditor, and it was well documented what they could and could not do.
