from what i've read orpingtons and silkies are suposed to be of the broody type. our neighbors orpington hatched some brahmas for us awhile back. so i went and got some myself and im looking for silkies, that being one of the reasons also. our one and only bantom has been sitting on some eggs for three days now but that dosen't mean anything. i've seen chickens sit on eggs for up to 5 days and then just get up and leave, never to return.

from Alabama. Glad you joined us. Like RedBarn said, Silkies and Cochins are both phenomenal broodies. We have Silkies and honestly, they've gone broody without any eggs under them at all lol. In fact, I have two that are broody right now.
